MERIT

The MERIT project - Methodology for Architecting Intelligent Trustworthy Infrastructures for Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), has the goals to, (1) develop an architecting method, architecture proposals, and an open demonstrator for critical CPS infrastructures, and (2) strengthen the strategic research agenda developed by the COSIS consortium. The project targets the challenges of ensuring security, safety and resilience properties for increasingly software intensive, automated, connected and large-scale CPS, acting in increasingly complex environments.

The project results include, (i) an architecting method and architecture proposal, (ii) approaches and techniques for effective security and know ledge management, (iii) an open demonstrator, and (iv) a research agenda. The project is expecting to achieve tech-transfer, indicated through collaborative work and demonstration of selected research results. The longer expectation is that of industrial adoption of research results, and to expand the research by establishing a competence center and further by other sources of funding such as from the EU. MERIT gathers a multidisciplinary team (see figure illustrating partners) covering industrial best practices, systems engineering, software technology, control, and networked systems, with specific expertise in safety, security and resilience, aiming for an integrated approach. The research is driven by use cases which provide a concretization of intended results, linking to industrial applications. The consortium is made up of KTH and a small set of industrial and public partners. A broader reference group will contribute to the development of a longer term strategic research agenda.
