Electrical Engineering with specialization in Semiconductor Process Technology

Per-Erik Hellström’s research focuses on semiconductor process technology, particularly the heterogeneous integration of materials and devices with Si CMOS technology to enhance integrated circuits. Together with Ph.D. students, he has developed a double patterning technique for fabricating nanometer-sized transistors. His work also explores the integration of new materials such as SiGe, Ge, high-k dielectrics, and metal gates. A key objective is to develop processes, devices, and circuits for sequential 3D integration in future CMOS technologies.

He leads KTH's FDSOI CMOS process and circuit technology, which serves as the foundation for research on integrating new materials and devices with CMOS electronics.

In addition to research, he manages the Si and SiC process line at the Electrum Laboratory, overseeing tool maintenance, uptime, process control, upgrades, and future tool investments.

His teaching activities include courses in electrical circuits, semiconductor devices, and process technology at both the Bachelor's and Master's levels.
