Ask Riccardo a question

Why did you choose this master’s programme at KTH?

During the final year of my bachelor’s studies, I knew that I wanted to pursue a master’s programme that would involve both programming and digital communication. The Information and Network Engineering master’s programme at KTH best fits my needs, as the courses are planned to balance these two topics well. The courses also provide a solid understanding of signal processing and computer networks, which is vital for a complete knowledge base. Moreover, KTH is known for being a top university and for its strong connections with companies; attending classes here and learning from experts who work in the field is still a dream for me!

What are the best aspects of your programme?

The best aspect of this programme is that great emphasis is placed on learning from real-life scenarios. Whether it is during laboratory hours, group projects or classes, there is always a connection between the theory that has been introduced and how it can be practically applied. This learning method is a great way to understand better and remember what is taught in class.

Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? If Yes, which track and why?

One of the reasons I chose to pursue this programme was the possibility of selecting a specialisation track out of four options. Before starting my journey at KTH, I was confident about pursuing the digital communication track. I found the right path after attending the digital communication course, confirming my beliefs. Having the possibility to choose a track is a great advantage since the mandatory courses in the first two periods give a great insight into the possible choices. This gives you more time to decide better what you want to do!

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

What struck me at first was the division of the academic year into four periods, an entirely different study approach from the one at my previous university, where we just had two. Now at KTH, since there are usually only two courses per period, it is easier to focus on the subjects and understand them more in-depth. Furthermore, delivering projects and assignments is of great help in the final exam since most of the knowledge has already been acquired through those. The time dedicated to lab experiences is also more than my previous experience, which is of great help in getting more hands-on experience.

How is student life in Stockholm?

Stockholm is a vibrant city, and there are always opportunities for students to participate in events or meet new people inside and outside the main campus. Many international students have decided to join KTH, which is one of its best parts, as it is possible to make friends worldwide! Moreover, there are various discounts in many shops or online reserved for students, thus making the city much more student-friendly!

How would you describe your time at KTH so far?

My experience at KTH has been one of the most enriching and stimulating of my life, both academically and personally. The way the courses are arranged helps keep an excellent study-life balance, and I feel motivated to deliver my best self every day. Even though winter may look scary initially, I can assure you it carries much beauty. The atmosphere in Stockholm during Christmas was very suggestive, and, in northern Sweden, the landscapes full of snow were just breathtaking.

What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master’s studies?

I want to encourage everyone to go for it and to try their best to get admitted to this prestigious university. Try not to feel overwhelmed by the application process and consider that the motivation letter is essential during the evaluation. Remember to make it as personal as possible and include your most sincere intentions. Overall, I recommend KTH for its top-quality education and lively student life! Do not hesitate to apply!
