Why choose KTH?

KTH Royal Institute of Technology is Sweden's largest and most respected technical university. Being a KTH student involves more than just engaging in studies. By choosing KTH, you gain access to a vibrant student life and a prestigious academic environment.

KTH in brief

KTH was established in 1827. Since the start, KTH has been at the centre of many of the technological advances in Sweden. In the early 1950s, the country's first nuclear reactor was installed on campus, at the same time as Sweden's very first TV station went on the air across the street. Over the last 190 years, KTH has gone on to become one of the most prominent technical universities in Europe.

In 1917, KTH's main campus with its courtyard building was constructed in the northern part of central Stockholm on the edge of the Royal National Park, which has been at the disposal of the Swedish monarch since the 15th century. The reigning King Carl XVI Gustaf is the guardian of the university, and the royal crown has been a part of the university seal since 1827.

3 reasons to choose KTH

There are many good reasons to choose KTH; these are the three most recurring reasons why our students join our institution.

Embrace an innovative mindset

Sweden is known for its innovations, from the lifesaving seatbelt and the pacemaker to modern services like Spotify and Skype. Following in the footsteps of Alfred Nobel and other Swedish inventors, KTH inspires students to look for invention in challenges and real-world problems, contributing to a brighter tomorrow. Through KTH Innovation we support you in developing your ideas.

Adopt a sustainable approach

Sustainable development is a natural aspect of Swedish society and an integral part of KTH's operations and spirit. One of our most important goals is for all graduates to have up-to-date knowledge and tools to move society in a more sustainable direction. You can read about how each of our master's programmes  contributes to a more sustainable future.

Experience a new life in Stockholm

As a student at KTH, you will spend your time in Stockholm, the beautiful capital of Sweden and the home of KTH. The calmness, clean air and water, closeness to nature, work-life balance and openness to different lifestyles are just some of the perks of life here. It's not a surprise that many students moving here prefer to stay in Sweden after graduation.
