International applicants
We welcome applicants from all over the world to join our vibrant student community. The requirements for admission to KTH are the same, regardless of where you are from. However, there are some factors, like tuition fees and residence permits, that you need to consider if you are coming to KTH from outside the EU.
Join our diverse community
Sweden, in general, and KTH in particular, has a long-standing tradition of welcoming students from all corners of the world. A large number of the 12,000 full-time students have come to KTH from outside of Sweden for degree or exchange studies. At KTH, you will have the opportunity to meet a diversity of people with different experiences, who will widen your horizons and challenge you to excel.
Study levels and language
At KTH, all but one bachelor's programme is taught in Swedish, so if you want to come to KTH directly from high school, there is only one option for you. Our master's programmes and doctoral studies are provided in English, as are our free online courses . Exchange students study some of our over 1,000 master's level courses taught in English.
Fees depend on citizenship
Studying at university is free of tuition fees for Swedish citizens, which also makes it free for all other EU/EEA and Swiss citizens. Students without EU citizenship must pay tuition fees to study a bachelor's or master's programme at KTH. They also need to apply for a Swedish residence permit, which is done after they are admitted to KTH.
Doctoral students do not pay fees; instead, they receive a monthly salary, as doctoral studies in Sweden are considered employment.
Exchange students coming to KTH from our over 200 partner universities don't pay any tuition fees, regardless of where they are from. To become an exchange student, you must study at a KTH partner university and be nominated by that university.
