The world is becoming more and more interconnected and it is important to be able to trust the communications systems used. Panagiotis Papadimitratos' research seeks to make existing and future network systems secure and reliable. This is primarily a question of protecting networks and their users from attacks and misuse. The research conducted includes a number of security and integrity problems, with emphasis on wireless and mobile systems. This is driven by how the Internet is becoming more and more present and intertwined with our everyday lives, activities and physical spaces. Examples of this are medical services, smart energy production and distribution, automated logistics chains, adaptable buildings, and more effective and safer transport.
The objective of Papadimitratos' research group is to investigate the emerging network systems and to re-design, improve or propose new functionality to eliminate weaknesses and risks. The research group provides solutions to protect the network system's function and users, and especially the users' privacy. There is experimental implementation and assessment of solutions; and there is also great emphasis on theory, with the help of formal protocol analysis and theoretical information methods.
