Sweden has a long tradition of industrial production, with a unique number of successful manufacturing companies that are active in the global arena. But production and its logistics are changing. Industrial manufacturing of goods is increasing significantly today, in global terms. Yet an extensive digitisation of all processes, and the need for a radical switch to environmentally sustainable production, are changing the role of production in goods flows.
Magnus Wiktorsson's research concerns both these transformations of production logistics. The issues concern how new material flows for manufacturing can provide for more sustainable industry and consumption, and also how an extensive digitisation of development and operations processes can change the conditions for production logistics.
Wiktorsson's research is based on a strong systems-engineering and mathematical interest. The work deals with how complex socio-technical systems can be described and predicted. In most cases, the examples studied have concerned industrial production logistics, in close collaboration with our large and small manufacturing companies. The challenge in this field is often to balance many different dimensions in order to achieve an economically, socially and ecologically sustainable system.
