Meet the graduates from Machine Design
Find out what graduates from the master's programme in Machine Design are doing now.
Teodor Hidén
CEO of Moelven
"I chose Machine Design for my master's due to the breadth of applicability it covers. Personally, I am more of a generalist than an expert, and I wanted to have the opportunity to find work in many fields and locations. After graduation, I moved to Värmland and started a job at a sawmill, mainly focused on production engineering and project management. After 2.5 years, I got my first manager job at another company producing indoor climate products from sheet metal. I ran the maintenance and production engineering department for 2 years with my team of 6 employees. I then got the opportunity to be the CEO of a wood planing and processing company producing parts for doors. The knowledge I gained from the people I studied with and the courses themselves have been key in taking me to where I am today. I strongly recommend the master's programme in Machine Design."
Rimmie Duraisamy
Doctoral student at KTH
"I have always been captivated by the design and operation of mechanical systems. This passion for understanding the intricacies of machines led me to pursue this programme at KTH. My time at KTH was truly transformative. The knowledgeable and dedicated faculty, diverse student body, and state-of-the-art facilities created an enriching environment for both academic and personal growth. The strong engineering foundation and hands-on experience I gained as a student greatly propelled my career in the industry. Returning to KTH as a PhD student in the same department, I found unparalleled support and mentorship. The collaborative environment and the freedom to choose my own research path have fostered innovation and critical thinking. KTH's commitment to excellence and sustainability has allowed me to work on impactful projects that address real-world challenges. I am both grateful and proud to be part of a community that is shaping the future of engineering leadership."
Martin Jonsson
Design engineer at Scania Group
"Studying this programme gave me important knowledge that I use daily as a mechanical design engineer. Working at Scania requires me to take on many different roles and be involved in everything from Simulations and 3D design to forming requirement specifications, making drawings, and managing time plans and projects. I believe KTH and the courses provided within machine design prepared me well and gave me the foundation needed for my future career."
"The best part of my master’s studies was the Advanced Machine Design course where one is involved with an industry project spanning over roughly one year where the students in a group design, analyse, manufacture, and test the prototype by the end of the course. This really helped me understand the complexities and challenges involved in product development. It also made me realise that cost and time play a significant role in the development of any new product. Apart from the courses, I was also had the unique opportunity to be part of the Shell Eco-marathon competition in London where student teams from various fields come together to design and build energy-efficient cars and compete. This was a fun and extremely knowledge enriching experience which I would always cherish."
