Faisal Umar

Dr Faisal Umar is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Urban & Regional Planning of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Nigeria. He completed his PhD at University College London in 2017, and was awarded the Roger Tomlinson Prize for his thesis: Understanding Spatial Patterns of Urban Crime in a Developing Country. His current research interest has focused on the socio-spatial dimensions of crime and the pluralization of security provisioning in sub-Saharan Africa. As an Urban Studies Foundation (USF) International Fellow in 2021, Dr Umar was a visiting scholar for 6 months at the Department of Human Geography, Planning and International Development of the University of Amsterdam.
