As an affiliated faculty at KTH Maria Xylia will work with joint research project development for SEI and KTH, teach in energy-related courses, and supervise Master and PhD students.

Where did the initiative to become affiliated come from?

Stockholm Environment Institute SEI is a strategic partner to KTH and, as part of this collaboration, affiliations and personnel exchanges between the two organizations are highly encouraged. I have studied and worked at KTH for a long time, so as soon as I joined SEI I became active in the partnership´s steering group. Then I got in touch with old colleagues at the Department of Energy Technology to initiate discussions to become affiliated faculty.

What do you hope to accomplish with your affiliation (for KTH and/or your home organisation)?

It feels great to be affiliated to my previous department at KTH, since I know how good the research is and what the key topics my colleagues work with are. I plan to be the “link” to what we do at SEI, which is interdisciplinary and with a mission to bridge science and policy. Energy and transport are more connected than ever, so I hope we can produce results that are relevant to the society and assist the transition to fossil-free solutions. I would be really happy if students at KTH would also be inspired by this mission and get interested in the kind of research we do.

Are there any special kind of contacts/collaboration/knowledge that you are looking for?

I want to strengthen collaboration between energy and transport researchers at KTH and further develop our work on developing tools for charging infrastructure planning and increased electrification.
