The course builds on lower-level courses, with further study of the most common and most important sentence patterns in everyday spoken Standard Chinese, and further expansion of a central vocabulary of words and characters. In addition, the course comprises writing and translation exercises, and an introduction to written and technical Chinese. Chinese society and culture, and the country's technical development, are covered. The course contains about 330 new characters.
