The course includes independent studies of literature relevant to the subject field of lightweight structures. The literature is chosen by the responsible supervisor and doctoral student. The literature may consist of books or a number of scientific articles. The literature will also aim to broaden the student's competence beyond the topic of his/her research. At the end of the course, the doctoral student will report his/her findings and conclusions of the literature review in the form of an essay and a presentation.

Intended learning outcomes
The course aims at giving the PhD student broadened knowledge in the subject of lightweight structures, their specific research area or other theoretical or applied subject matter of the research. The doctoral student will study in a special research literature relevant to his/her studies at the research level, as well as present the literature review as well as state-of-the-art in the form of an essay in the specific field of research, lightweight structures and linked to the specific field of application and research questions for the research. The broaden knowledge is essential and compulsory of this literature review course. The course does not aim to serve as a component of the doctoral thesis.

Based on recommendation from KTH’s coordinator for disabilities, the examiner will decide how to adapt an examination for students with documented disability.
The examiner may apply another examination format when re-examining individual students.
If the course is discontinued, students may request to be examined during the following two academic years.
To pass the course the students have to report his/her findings and conclusions of the literature review in the form of an essay (LIT1, 3 HP) and a presentation (SEM1, 3 HP).
Other requirements for final grade
The doctoral student must have presented his/her findings and conclusions of the literature reveiw in the form of an essay and a presentation. In addition, the student must have weekly follow-up meetings with the supervisor.

- In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
