KTH Future Humanities Initative

How can we utilize and develop humanities knowledge in a time of great social, technological and environmental change? What role can the humanities play in future vocational training? KTH Future Humanities Initiative is a research project which approaches these questions through research as well as education and collaboration with society at large. The overarching goal is to develop new forms of engineering education and vocation training at KTH and beyond, but also to reformulate the role of the humanities in in higher education and contemporary Swedish society.

About

The focus of the project is on interactive circulation and application of new integrative and relevant humanities knowledge that now exists on climate, environment and sustainability - and on applying it to promote social progress and innovation. The initiative seeks to engage professional groups, especially new generations of engineering and architecture students that play key roles in societal transformations, and involve them in educational efforts. A special mission is to work with outreach organizations and institutions to introduce transformative humanities knowledge to the wider society.

The Initiative has three overarching goals:

  • Offering a rich selection of educational options and tools for KTH students on different levels.

  • To make these tools scalable and of utility for other universities beyond KTH.

  • Working together with surrounding society to develop transformative humanities knowledge. We seek to contribute with important perspectives and practices in order to strengthen the position of Sweden and Stockholm as a global cluster for knowledge and innovation within environment, technology and policy.
