Fellowship program for doctoral students
In connection with KTH's collaboration with South Korea, the Swedish Embassy in Seoul wishes KTH to spread information about this Fellowship Program for doctoral students.
The Korean Academy of Science and Technology operates Science Networking Center (SNC) to internationally demonstrate the excellence of Korea’s distinguished scholars in the field of basic science. SNC aims to build a platform to support selected eminent scholars to promote their research achievements worldwide. As a milestone to achieve its mission, SNC aims to establish a research network by funding a fellowship program between scientists’ labs in the Nordic countries and South Korea.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants who meet all the following requirements are eligible to submit application documents.
- Applicants must be a PhD student in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland or Iceland at the time of application. Applicants who hold PhD are not eligible.

Applicants must have an occupation in Nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland), return there upon completing their fellowship tenure, and should contribute to the country that each applicant's current affiliation is based in.
Fellowship period
- Three to six months. The commencement date should be before Friday December 1, 2023.
Please indicate the length of your stay and its commencing and ending month in your Application Form.
(E.g., Four months from April 1, 2023 to July 31, 2023.)
Fellowship labs
Applicants are free to choose a host professor from the fellowhip's list. The nineteen professors were selected by Science Networking Center for their originality of research achievements.

Fellowship details
- Monthly Allowance: A monthly allowance of KRW 2,800,000 is provided to cover the expenses of research activities (including materials) and living expenses in Korea.
- Round-trip Air Transportation: Round-trip economy class airfare is provided between the nearest international airport from a grantee’s domicile and the nearest international airport from the professor’s affiliated institution in Korea.
- Insurance: Overseas travel insurance with medical treatment is provided.
Notices concerning fellowship conditions
- The fellowship will be granted within the period specified in the grant letter, which can be extended upon advance request with an application form. Financial aids are provided to the maximum period of six months in total.
- Only the individual specified in the grant letter is eligible for the grant. Science Networking Center will not be involved in any way with regard to the immigration procedures, airline tickets or accommodation expenses for the family, companions, etc. of the selected applicant.

- ID photograph taken within the past three months must be attached.
- Please make sure that the form is filled out precisely.
- Applications using anything but the prescribed form that has been signed and dated will not be accepted.
Soft copy of publication
Please submit only one publication (PDF) related to the research project that you intend to conduct in Korea.
CV signed by PhD advisor and list of publications
Regarding the list of publications, please precisely include the authors and titles of the publications, as well as the name of the journal, page(s), and year of publication in the list. Please also highlight the title of the publication that you submit as #3. Your CV need to contain PhD advisor’s name and signature on the last page.
Soft copies of academic certificates/diplomas for PhD., Master’s, and Bachelor’s Degrees
Documents should be officially published in English.
