Apply to International Internship Program in informatics at NII in Tokyo

Published Sep 27, 2023

As PhD-candidate or master student at KTH you have the opportunity to be guest researcher at the leading institute for informatics in Japan with funding to cover the living costs.

The National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Tokyo has identified KTH as a prioritized partner. Master students and PhD-students at KTH are therefore eligible to visit NII and get supervision. Master students can use this opportunity for the master’s degree project. The research visit must start before April 2024. The financial support amounts to approximately SEK 400 per day.

You need to first find a supervising professor at NII who agree to be your host. Then write a Letter of Motivation that you send to KTH Professor Atsuto Maki, atsuto@kth.se , who is coordinating this program at KTH, together with your CV, indicating clearly any and all past employment and educational history, and the application form (i.e. three items to send in total). Make sure to read the guideline and do that before KTH internal deadline on 17 October.

Then a nomination will be made for up to three applicants that is communicated with NII. Vice president Stefan Östlund is responsible for the nomination.

NII offers an exceptionally strong research environment. It is the only national institute in Japan in the area of informatics with some 75 permanent professors and many visiting professors. The institute is located in central Tokyo.
