Campus relocation from Södertälje and Kista
KTH has decided that all activities, including teaching and other student activities, will move from KTH Kista and KTH Södertälje to KTH Campus and KTH Flemingsberg. The relocation will take place gradually but should be completed by 2027.
The decision is based on discussions about the need to take a holistic approach to KTH's campus and premises. The starting point for these discussions has been how KTH can strengthen its academic environment. More inforrmation about the decision can be found at KTH Intranet: KTH Campus relocation .
All teaching and other student-related activities will be moved. The change will happen gradually but should not affect any programmes negatively.
The goal is to:
- Offer a larger proportion of KTH's programmes on the same campus with closer coordination of staff, premises and schedule.
- Provide all KTH students more equal support, such as study counselling and funka.
- Offer equal access to the library, service and THS.
- Facilitate closer connections between teachers and students, thus improving education, as students at all levels have easier access to a wider range of courses.
- Create a better and richer campus environment for students, regardless of their education.
What happens next in Södertälje and Kista?
The relocation from Campus Södertälje and Kista will differ, but the overall move from both campuses should be completed by 2027. Study counsellors and master's coordinators will be available on both campuses during the relocation to facilitate guidance calls and study planning for the students of the affected programmes.
For Södertälje
- For Södertälje students admitted to programmes whose teaching is wholly or partly on the Södertälje campus, all relocation will be completed by 31 August 2025. This applies to the bachelor's programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Degree Programme in Industrial Technology and Production Maintenance , as well as the Master of science in engineering, 300 credits, and the master's programme in Sustainable Production Development.
- During the 2024/25 academic year, the programmes will be affected as follows:
Newly admitted students to the master programme in Industrial Engineering and Sustainability will study at KTH Campus and thus get a larger share of teaching at KTH Campus. For current second and third year students, place of study will remain largely unchanged. - During 2024/25 teaching for the master's programme in Sustainable Production Development will remain on the Södertälje campus. However, starting from autumn (HT25) all teaching will take place on KTH Campus.
- For the Bachelor of Engineering programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering and Production Maintenance, whose admission is dormant, teaching and examination for the students who complete the programmes will be on the Södertälje campus.
- For first year students, teaching will remain on Campus Södertälje but from HT25 students will move to Campus Flemingsberg.
For Kista
- For Kista, in the academic year 2024/25, the programmes at the basic level will be affected as follows. Newly admitted students to the following programmes will spend their autumn semester at Campus Kista: Master of Science in Engineering programme in Information and Communicaion Technology, Bachelor's programme in Information and Communication Technology, Bachelor of Science in Engineering programme in Computer Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Engineering programme Electronics and Computer Engineering. During the spring semester, teaching will be transferred to the KTH Campus on a course-by-course basis and according to a well-planned schedule. The purpose of this is to introduce the year group to studies at KTH Campus so they can plan and carry out the next autumn term's admission there. At the same time, THS activities can be organised and the number of study places at KTH Campus can gradually increase.
- Students admitted to these four programmes in autumn 2023 or autumn 2022 will complete most of the bachelor's level at Campus Kista. During the academic year 2025/26, some of the courses may be move to KTH Campus.
- Newly admitted students to the master’s programmes below will start their studies in autumn 2024 at Campus Kista: ICT innovation, EIT Digital students, Embedded Systems, Communication Systems and Software Engineering for Distributed Systems. The next cohort will start their studies at KTH Campus in the autumn of 2025. For master's students, we expect the entire programme to be carried out on one campus, that is not a course-by-course move as for the basic level.
- From autumn semester 2026, no further teaching is planned on the Kista campus unless delays in for example moving lab environments require it.
