Questions and answers about the campus relocation
Here you will find common questions and answers about how the campus relocation will affect you as a student.
Why are we moving from the Kista/Södertälje campus?
KTH has grown considerably over the past 20 years. The original incentives for having the various campuses were established have changed over time due to both external factors and KTH's internal development.
I am currently studying in Kista/Södertälje. What happens to my studies in the future?
Before the move is completed, you will not have to commute between two campuses on the same day. For the spring semester 2025, a so-called striped schedule is used, where teaching in Kista is mainly held on Mondays and Tuesdays, and teaching is conducted on campus on other days. The schedule is coordinated with the program manager and THS.
Will KTH have any kind of study activities in Kista after 2027?
What will happen to the Electrum Lab is still being investigated in Kista. Still, a likely scenario is continued investment in education and research around semiconductors and a new principal for the laboratory.
Will my thesis be affected by the move?
That depends on whether your thesis includes laboratory elements and where your supervisor/examiner has their permanent office location.
Will there be enough study places at KTH Campus?
Yes, that is the intention. KTH has a responsibility to you as a student to ensure that you can complete your education with high quality. This also includes equal access to self-study areas, the library, refectories and more. Work is currently underway at KTH, where the possibility of expanding the number of self-study places on the KTH Campus is being investigated.
Will there be enough lab environments and applied teaching at KTH Campus as in Kista/Södertälje?
A special part of the relocation program deals with these issues according to an additional directive where, among other things, IT, schedule and premises issues are coordinated to get a picture of needs.
I want to apply to KTH in the future. Which campus will I be on?
From autumn 2025, all new students will be admitted to KTH Campus or Flemingsberg. The study location of the programmes is always indicated on the respective program's information pages at kth.se/studies .
