Welcome to this year's Alfvén Lecture at KTH, with Professor Tünde Fülöp from Chalmers University of Technology who will talk about electron acceleration in plasma and its importance in various fields!

Electron acceleration and its associated radiation in plasmas has fascinated humankind with its beauty for centuries. It occurs in such diverse phenomena as laser-produced plasmas, electrial discharges associated with thunderstorms, aurorae in planetary magnetospheres, solar flares and fusion plasmas. However, the natural beauty of the observable signatures of these processes is not the only reason we are interested in them. Understanding their causes, characteristics and consequences has practical importance in several fields, ranging from clean energy generation to protection against solar storms. In this lecture, Fülöp will describe relativistic electron beams in magnetic fusion and laser-produced plasmas, as well as strategies for how to create and control them.

The student satellite project MIST is now recruiting new members. The MIST project is led by Professor Sven Grahn, who has extensive experience. The project offers students the opportunity to participate in building a real satellite.

If you want to join MIST to work for academic credits, you need to apply no later than October 20. As a volunteer, you are encouraged to apply as soon as possible!

KTH Space Center has selected the winners of the best degree project at advanced and basic level for 2023!

At basic level, we say a big congratulations to Cecilie Holmen & Mattias Wang who receive SEK 5000 each for their thesis that examines the position of Cusp Aurora when accompanied by Transpolar Arcs, with the goal to find its dependence on the interplaneteray magnetic field (IMF) and dipole tilt. The prize for the best thesis at advanced level and SEK 15,000 goes to Rasmus Maråk for his thesis that explores using a spacecraft swarm to maximise the measured gravitational signal in a hypothetical mission around the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenk. Read Rasmus thesis here:

Big congratulations to the winners and their interesting and rewarding degree projects!

On 23rd of April, KTH Space Center together with THS Armada launched ORBIT, a space-themed career fair, for the first time! 

It was a successful day with 20 exhibitors gathered in Nymble, all excited to meet students from all parts of KTH, to discuss possible career opportunities and developments within the space sector! Moreover, Christer Fuglesang talked about space development and work opportunities in front of a full crowd during lunch. Christer also participated in the panel discussion together with Sven Grahn and representatives from FMV, OHB, PandionAI, Ovzon and AESIR, touching on many interesting topics. The rewarding day ended with mingling in the pub of Nymble.

Lastly, we want to thank both the exhibitors and all the students for joining us on this space fair, encouraging us to keep organizing ORBIT in the coming years and do it even better!

We want to remind you that KTH Space Center offers the possibility to apply for financial support for groups or individuals at KTH who wish to carry out any space-related projects or operations.

The support is primarily aimed for new initiatives but ongoing projects and activities can also be considered. All employees and students at KTH are welcome to apply. Amounts of up to 50,000 kr is normal, in some cases higher sums can be considered.

On 18th of January at 22.45 Sweden's second astronaut started his journey to the International Space Station as a part of the Axiom Mission 3 (Ax-3)  . This mission is the first all-European commercial astronaut mission to the International Space Station!

KTH Space Center showcases research and technology development projects related to space activities at KTH. Therefore, we would like to congratulate Professor Yifang Ban  and her team from KTH, who received an award for their work on environmental monitoring and urban mapping using AI and Google Earth Engine (GEE). The team developed methods to monitor forest fires on a continental scale, providing near real-time insights and supporting emergency relief and management efforts.
