A master’s program with industrial interaction
In 2014, the government allocated 800 million SEK for a ten-year investment in KTH Södertälje. This year, their first master's degree program starts.
Hello Magnus Wiktorsson, head of department for the Department of Sustainable Production Development at KTH Södertälje, will you get any applicants for the new master's program this fall?
— When the application closed on January 15, we had 106 candidates, of which 27 were first-time applicants. Then, those who apply from our civil engineering programs will be added in May. We'll see how many places we will finally offer, but it would be very fun to get together about 20 students this first time.
Are you satisfied with the applications received?
— Based on the applicants' motivation letters that I have read, it feels like we have reached out with the message that we have a new modern campus, a new master's program with great industrial involvement, research-related education and a socially relevant profile. But I am not yet satisfied with the search pressure, I realize that launching new courses is a challenge. We need to prove ourselves and communicate even more clearly to create an even greater interest.
What are your hopes for the Master's program?
— Our Master's program will have both a close connection to the industry and to the department's research on sustainable production development. Sustainability and Digitization are two key words in which we see a great interest from our industrial partners. A Master's program based in Södertälje is also very important for the department's development, not least for having a complete portfolio and creating the last link between our undergraduate education, postgraduate education and research.
