In 2022, the Wallenberg Foundations contributed SEK 235 million to the research at KTH. This makes them one of our most important external funders. The Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW) accounts for the largest part of the contribution.

Research programmes
KTH is involved in five large national research programmes financed by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation. The research programmes are strategic initiatives with the objective to develop competence within prioritised areas. The programmes build competence through international recruitment of young scientists, research training, and research arenas to foster collaboration between academia and industry.

Project grants
Project grants from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation are powerful grants for excellent basic research in the fields of medicine, natural sciences and technology. Since 2016, KTH has been awarded grants for eight research projects that are considered to offer potential for future scientific breakthroughs.

Wallenberg Academy Fellows
The appointment Wallenberg Academy Fellow is awarded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation to the most promising young researchers in medicine, natural sciences, engineering, technology, humanities and social sciences.
