About KTH Railway Group

The purpose of the railway group is to contribute to development and increased competitiveness for the railway and the Swedish railway industry by creating knowledge and development opportunities in railway-related subjects.

The railway group's strength is that we can carry out major research programs in collaboration with our partners, which not only include technical aspects of the vehicle and track system, but also traffic issues and the perspectives of travelers and freight customers.

Over the years, the Railway Group has strived to improve the railway and has been involved in extensive research programs such as Shift2Rail and concept studies, such as e.g. The Green Train. All these projects aim to make rail transport more efficient and increase the railway's capacity and attractiveness compared to other means of transport.

Today, the Railway Group is active in several Areas of Excellence (Trafikverket funding) and EU projects within Europe's Rail, where we cooperate in principle with all players in the railways such as vehicle manufacturers, infrastructure managers, operators, universities, research institutes and consultants. We have scientific exchanges with many universities in Europe, the USA, China, India, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia.
