The center's business model of acting as a bridge between industry, institutes and academia enables close collaboration between the members, which in turn leads to knowledge building in a number of strategically important areas.
Over the years, DMMS has worked in a number of different research areas at the Department of Industrial Production. Computer systems for design and manufacturing (DKT), Machine and process technology (MOP) and Machine and measurement systems (MMS) are some examples.
Students contribute positively to society through their knowledge and experience from educations based on the latest results from field of production and manufacturing technology, and practical knowledge from participation in DMMS research activity.
Researchers active in DMMS work closely with a number of international universities and institutes, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology NIST in Gaithersburg in the USA, Tohoku University in Sendai Japan and the École Polytechnique de Montréal in Canada. Visiting research stays have been initiated through DMMS. The work has resulted in co-publications, as well as in-depth collaboration. DMMS members are also active in a number of international academies and research organizations, the most prominent of which are CIRP and euspen.
