Research & development

DMMS strive to bring forth new knowledge within the field from extensive research that is both theory and practice based. Various research projects are coordinated within DMMS.

Metal manufacturing

Resarch areas

The research activities are focused on three strategically important areas:

1. Machine systems

The field of machine systems deals with construction and design principles for machine tools and machining systems for advanced component manufacturing. It includes "smart" machines and testing and analysis of their condition.

2. Processes

The area of processes focuses on manufacturing processes such as milling and turning, but also hybrid machining and strategies for machining.

3. Precision and measurement techniques

The area of precision and measurement technology is about development of new tests and analysis tools for monitoring and characterizing the condition and performance of manufacturing systems. Smart sensors, data collection systems, integrated data analysis and drones for industrial environments are included as new parts of theses activities.

Research activities

The research is carried out by researchers, research engineers and doctoral students with support from industry representatives in collaboration with students through three main activities:

  • student projects (via courses, for example)
  • degree projects and national
  • international research projects.

DMMS is also involved in industry organisations and production clusters.
