Italian-Swedish Workshop on Nanoscience & Nanotechnology

The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Embassy of Italy in Sweden are organizing a bilateral Workshop on Nanoscience and nanotechnology on October 13-14.
The meeting will be held in Kista campus, Electrum 3, and is organized on the initiative of the Functional Materials Division and the Office of the Scientific Attaché, at the Embassy of Italy in Sweden.

The aim of the meeting is to bring together scientists and researchers in the two countries in order to review the current activities in KTH and other Swedish and Italian Universities and enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries.

The two day meeting will cover a wide range of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology aspects, including nanomagnetism, photonics and electronics, nanomaterials and their applications in different fields, including cultural heritages conservation, biotechnology and medicine. In addition, just few days ago the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2008 was given to Osamu Shimomura, Martin Chalfie and Roger Tsien "for the discovery and development of the green fluorescent protein, GFP". Few invited speakers will present their research related to the use of GFP together with nanomaterials for biomedical applications, explaining how this tool allows visualization of living cells at a molecular level.
