Mobile Gamma camera

Technology description

The Mobile 3D Gamma Camera was developed, designed and constructed by researchers from Karolinska Hospital, Karolinska institute, Novum and KTH in Stockholm, Sweden and commercialized by Adolesco AB.

The Gamma Camera is a fully mobile unit. It can be positioned and used at the hospital bed without moving the patient. With an acquisition time of just 2 minutes and a total examination time from the injection of radioisotopes to the final images of just 10 minutes, the 3D Mobile Gamma Camera is a powerful bedside decision-making tool useful even in the emergency room. For example, in cardiology it has been shown that the application of the 3D Mobile Gamma Camera is superior to today’s clinical practice using electrocardiography (ECG) and clinical risk scoring.

Advantages compared to a traditional stationary digital Gamma Camera include:

  • Bed-side application
  • Fully mobile
  • Acquisition time 2 minutes
  • Final results 10 minutes
  • Short training period for the clinical specialists

Clinical impact

In the future, application of the 3D Mobile Gamma Camera may cut hospitalization costs without jeopardizing patient safety.
