Research interests
I have always been intrigued with biomimetics. Biological materials, despite being composed of a relatively small range of chemical elements, generally display a rather complex profile of properties. The answer to this fascinating behaviour often lies in the structure of these materials, which extends down to the nanoscale. Advanced characterization techniques, such as x-ray and neutron scattering, are required to unravel the structure-property relationships. In the scope of my PhD, I am currently working with cellulosic systems in order to better understand how cellulose influences its surrounding medium. Utilizing advanced characterization techniques like nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMR) and environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) provides insights into the mechanisms of water transport within cellulosic systems.
