Yu-Cheng

Yu-Cheng comes from Taiwan and got his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University before coming to KTH to study the master's in Engineering Mechanics - Fluid Track at KTH. He's also part of the KTH Formula Student team as a cooling engineer.

Why did you choose this master's programme at KTH?

KTH has a reputation for top-ranked research and strong collaborations with the industry, with abundant resources in academic research, library, facilities, and teaching activities. In addition, KTH is one of the best institutes in the fluid mechanics-related study! The programme arranges a series of courses that builds up the essential foundation of the knowledge combined with some projects and lab work. Also, the system is flexible, and you can select other courses from different departments at KTH to expand your knowledge in the various disciplines. For the master's degree project, you can choose to do the thesis on campus or in the industry. You can sketch your future blueprint with ample resources and assistance from faculties and graduates.

Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme?

I chose the Fluid Track within the Engineering Mechanics master's programme, which focuses on fluid mechanics and related fields. I am very interested in aerodynamics, thermal management, and fluid simulation, aiming to work in the automotive or energy industry in the future. The courses in the track provide various aspects of knowledge, including theoretical lectures and practical projects. Several kinds of research are conducted by KTH faculties focusing on sustainability, which is vital to the environment and our future. These give me the opportunity to foster the ability in academic research and engineering analysis and enlighten our sight to the future technology.

How do studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?

The semester here in Sweden is denser than that in Taiwan. Most lecture courses here concentrate on a period of about eight weeks. Many projects and lab assignments within the courses allow us to expand what we learn to the more practical engineering problem. In addition, group work is highly encouraged here, where you can meet many classmates from different countries and learn with mutual stimulation within the class.

How is the student life in Stockholm?

Stockholm is a beautiful city with many historical sites, museums, and lovely nature. Living in the capital of Sweden, you can visit many places for culture, fashion, technology, and nature during your spare time. There are a lot of student activities at KTH held by the student union (THS) and other student groups. They are great chances to meet many friends from all over the world and enjoy student life together.
