Content and learning outcomes

Course disposition

• Lectures on important phases of the fuel cycle

• 1 field trip to STUDSVIK or Westinghouse
• 1 field trip to Oskarshamn
• 1 visit to the nuclear fuel lab of KTH
• Simple home assignments where problems are solved individually but peer-reviewed in groups
• 1 comprehensive final assignment
• 1 seminar to deliver the final assignment
• Oral exam

Course contents

Uranium degradation, uranium enrichment, fuel production, recycling and waste management, transportation.

Intended learning outcomes

After passing the course, the student should be able to design a realistic, economically and environmentally thoughtful fuel cycle for a country that uses nuclear power.
