The course begins with a few lectures on techniques used in legal reasoning, mainly sources of law – statutes, preparatory works, case law etc. The different legal professions are also discussed and how courts and legislators work. The substantive legal fields discussed thereafter are contract law, the Sale of Goods Act and the law of damages and company law.
The industrial connection is provided through the studies of legal cases and problems that have occurred in business settings.
The aim of the course is to enable students to appreciate and handle legal problems occurring in a business environment. The focus is on the techniques that are used in legal reasoning and further on concepts and rules in business law, particularly in contract law. The course can be studied separately, but it is also a theoretical and practical basis for the course in Intellectual property, 4D1056 (patents, copyright etc), that is taught during the spring term. Students that have passed 4D1151 are given priority if they wish to study the course Intellectual property, 4D1056.
