The course deals with the theories concerning efficiency and equity that constitute bases for analysis and evaluation of legislation regarding land law and property rights.
The course is conducted in seminar form. Before each workshop, the participants shall study a scientific text and write a memo. During each seminar, different topics or perspectives form the basis for discussions.
The overall objective of this course is to provide knowledge of basic theories of efficiency and equity, in order to give the participants intruments for analyzing and evaluating current real property law.
This means that the course participants after completion, inter alia, should be able to:
- Explain the meaning in basic concepts in institutional economics, such as formal and informal institutions, transactions and transaction costs, rationality, and uncertainty.
- Explain the content of different theories of economic efficiency and fairness.
- Apply those theories to relevant parts of the Swedish real property law, evaluate the regulations in terms of economic efficiency and equity, and suggest possible improvements.
