The course intends to deepen the understanding and ability of qualified process management in
complex planning conditions. The course takes starting point in the changeable
surrounding conditions for planning connected to among other things sustainable societal development, and how these influence
the preconditions for planning for sustainable cities, regions, transport and urban structures.

situation analysis, theory of strategic planning capacity and process design,
negotiation methodology and leadership in complex projects.
The course consists of a blend of theory and dialogue-based learning activities and exercises. Core components of the course are
lectures, seminar discussions, individual and group assignment and analyses of practical
planning cases.
After passing the course, the student should be able to:
- Discuss in-depth how changing external conditions connected to
the long term sustainable development influences the assignment as
urban and regional planners/process leaders.
- Based on own professional experiences and supported by contemporary planning theory,
describe, analyse and critically discuss the context of the planning, planning processes and
the outcome of planning.
- Based on own professional experiences and supported by contemporary planning theory,
reflect on how the above mentioned influence the preconditions for running complex
planning cases forward in your role as urban and regional planners/process leaders.
