Candidate main body of work consists of a project. This is designed to integrate, extend and develop students' knowledge and skills in a defined area and on the basis of knowledge achieved in previous courses completed in the program. The student will choose topics through their choice of a larger overall project within the Built Environment. In order to facilitate and support the candidate work, a number of generic competencies are also addressed, which are translated into practical application in the project. Particular emphasis is placed on training in reporting one's own work, both orally and by independently write an entire or part of the thesis / project report, which must be worth reading for an intended recipient.

Intended learning outcomes
After completion of the Degree Project the student should be able to:
· identify and define a problem within the chosen topic
· plan work to resolve and report the problem with given resources
· seek, obtain and evaluate published literature and other background information
· integrate and develop knowledge in the chosen problem
· document the project through journaling
· report in written and oral form results of the work and how these are consistent with project aims and effectiveness
· critically examine, evaluate and constructive questioning another candidate's work on problem formulation, implementation and results
Literature and preparations
Specific prerequisites
In general, the major part of the studies, at least 120 credits on the Masters program in Architecture and the Built Environment, Land and Water Resources Engineering, must be completed before the thesis work may commence. It is the duty of the examiner to ensure that the student has adequate depth of knowledge in the particular area before the Degree project begins. Exemption can be granted after review of the Director of undergraduate studies.

Independent literature and literary studies in the given problem area are expected. Reading can also be proposed by the examiner or supervisor.

Other requirements for final grade
The Degree Project is presented as a written report according to current standards for scientific and technical reports and orally presented and defended at a seminar. The written part is composed of an independently written essay / report, covering the whole candidate work, or a clearly identifiable part of a joint essay / report. It also includes critical analysis of another candidate's work and of being an opponent during the seminar as it is presented. The examination will attach importance to the quality of the project report, project journal, oral presentation and the opposition, especially the link to the aims of the Degree project.
