AD253V The Housing Question: Current perspectives on a classical challenge 7.5 credits

The course "The Housing Question: Current perspectives on a classical challenge " will give students an understanding of housing as an essential part of society's structures and infrastructures. The course posits the idea that "sustainable housing creates sustainable societies" which will be tested from many different perspectives such as sustainable housing, housing as a right, good housing, the housing market, housing crisis, housing supply, housing histories, etc.
Students will meet prominent practitioners and theorists from the housing sector in lectures and have many opportunities for conversation. In-depth studies will take place through case studies of contemporary and historical housing projects. The interdisciplinary and broad approach should give the students better tools and skills to contribute to the sustainable urban development of the future.
The pedagogical structure of the course is based on 3-hour seminars where current perspectives on the housing issue are introduced in short lectures followed by an in-depth conversation between students. An exercise or literature study then links back to the content of the lecture. The seminars are supplemented with a couple of study visits. Exercises linked to lectures and in-depth discussions make up 4.0 HP of the course. Exercise tasks linked to study visits and case studies make up the remaining 3.5 HP. 80% attendance is required for passing.
