The PhD Programme

Interested in doing research? History of Science, Technology and Environment attracts graduate students both from the humanities and social sciences and from the technical disciplines. The historical perspective deepens our understanding of contemporary issues and seeks answers across national and disciplinary borders.

General Information

The PhD programme in History of Science and Technology at KTH was created in the early 1990s and examined its first PhD students in 1997. By 2011, twenty PhD students have graduated and seven licentiate theses have been approved.

The name of the PhD programme is now "History of Science, Technology and Environment". Its profile is broad, with specializations in Industrial Heritage, History of Science and Environmental History, all of which are characterized by a spatial and material approach when studying the past. Our PhD programme holds a leading position in Sweden and Scandinavia. It has an excellent international reputation and strong international connections.

We are giving third-cycle courses for doctoral students in all periods, open for both KTH doctoral students and externals. Visit the course page for more information.
