Content and learning outcomes
Course contents
The course covers the management and planning of construction projects during later design stages, procurement, production on site and handover. The following aspects are covered:
- Construction procurement strategies
- Construction contracts, also international
- Planning and management of production processes, including risk, cost, improvement, supply chains, health and safety, and logistics
- Managing people, culture and relationships
- Social and environmental sustainability in construction
Intended learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to prepare students for further studies on advanced level within real estate and construction, as well as for participating in and managing construction projects. After the course, the students should be able to:
- Describe, analyse, and select strategies and methods for planning, organising and managing construction projects, especially for the production phase, based on established research, and considering goals for sustainable development.
Learning activities
The course activities include lectures, workshops, guest lectures and a study visit led by professionals, and two grading seminars. The course language is English. The course is partly digital. The scheduled lectures will not be recorded, but some modules contain pre-recorded material.

Preparations before course start
Literature
Main textbook: Fewings, P. & Henjewele, C. (2019) Construction Project Management: An Integrated Approach, Routledge, 3rd edition (selected chapters from the book, reading list of chapters will be provided)
Academic articles and additional handouts, announced at the beginning of the course.
The textbooks and most of the articles are available for download through KTH Library. Other material will be uploaded on Canvas. You are expected to prepare by downloading/reviewing the literature indicated in the schedule before each lecture/seminar.
Support for students with disabilities

Assignment ( ÖVN1 )
There are two mandatory grading seminars, each carried out in (the same) groups of 3-4 students. Each group prepares a hand-in and presents the assignment at the seminar.
Seminar 1: International construction projects and contracts (Seminar moderator Aisha Nadar)

Written Assignment ( TEN1 ) and other examination requirements
Assessment is based on:
1) a written exam at the end of the course, covering all parts of the course (5,0 credits, grade scale: A-F)
2) participation in two mandatory seminars (see above), incl. groupwork and presentation (2,5 credits, grade scale: P, F)
3) active presence at minimum 8 of 11 lectures/workshops/study visit
In case of fail (F) on the exam, the student is required to take one of the regular re-exams.
In case of F (fail) on active presence at either seminars (indicated by ** in the schedule) and/or less than 7 out of 10 lectures/workshops/study visit (indicated by * in the schedule), the participant is required to do a complementary assignment to fulfil the aim of the course.
In case of fail (F) on the exam, the student is required to take one of the regular re-exams. Contact the course examiner for further information.
In case of F (fail) on active presence at either seminars and/or less than 5 out of 7 mandatory lectures or study visit, the participant is required to do a complementary assignment to fulfil the aim of the course.

In any assessment, every student shall honestly disclose any help received and sources used.
In an oral assessment, every student shall be able to present and answer questions about the entire assignment and solution.
