RPL Assistant Professor Position 2022

The division of Robotics, Perception and Learning (RPL)  at KTH Royal Institute of Technology  is looking to hire an assistant professor in the broader area of machine learning and autonomous systems. We are looking for strong researchers that can complement and strengthen our research environment.

RPL currently has 13 faculty that together with their research groups make up the research environment. This page  gives a short introduction to the faculty and links for further information.

The position is funded by the national initiative WASP , which offers a competitive start package consisting of funding for two PhD students and two two-year postdoc positions in addition to your full salary for four years.

Application timeline

  1. You make your application via the portal that  where the deadline is also specified.
  2. External evaluators can only be appointed after the list of candidates is final, to avoid conflict of interest situations. Such decisions involve the central administration which is closed over summer at KTH. The aim is to have the experts appointed in August and provided with the applications.
  3. The external experts evaluate the applications in September and we hope to call candidates for interviews and arrive at a final ranking and send out offers in October.
  4. The candidates need to start their positions before the end of June 2023.

Tenure-track at KTH

All assistant professor positions at KTH are opened with the ambitions that the assistant professors follow the career path defined for these tenure-track positions. That is, KTH opens these positions with a track exclusive for you, to be promoted first to associate, after approximately four years and finally to full professor.

Job description

As a member of RPL and faculty at KTH you are expected to contribute to both of the core activities, i.e. research and teaching. The teaching load as an assistant professor would be 25-30%.

You are expected to build a research group around your research topic and interact with researchers, companies, and the society at large with time. The start package gives you the foundation for the group, but with time you are expected to secure your own funding to see your research visions come to life.
