For questions about writing your master thesis at INDEK, contact Bo Karlson .

The master thesis is the important final part of your studies at KTH and consists of an academic essay that you write, present, and get assessed. It is a scientific work that is supervised, assessed, and graded by teachers at INDEK. You initiate the thesis project yourself, and we expect you to perform the work in an active and independent way.

The thesis project is carried out in pairs or individually; we never allow more than two students to write a thesis together. We encourage you to write with another student, but you may choose to work alone if you want to. We know from experience that the quality of the master thesis usually is higher for students who write in pairs. Also, the probability that the work will be completed on time is significantly higher. Unfortunately, INDEK cannot help you to find a student with whom you can write your master thesis.

Most students write their thesis in collaboration with a company or other organization. Selection of area of research and problem formulation is done independently but in dialogue with the KTH supervisor and the company commissioning the project. You take full responsibility for the collaboration with the company.

It is normally possible to write the thesis abroad, but it is important that you discuss this with INDEK's director of studies or another teacher at the department.

For specific questions about subject areas for thesis projects at INDEK, contact one of the contact persons listed in Subject areas for thesis projects .

Carrying out a thesis project at INDEK

During the process of writing your thesis, you will be coached by a supervisor appointed by INDEK. You will also be placed in a seminar group with 4-6 other thesis teams. Normally, the seminar leader is also your examiner. The seminar group meets for peer-review seminars four times during the semester. The last seminar is the final presentation during which you present and defend your thesis. You also act as opponent on another thesis. During the spring semester, the final seminar is carried out in connection with INDEK Master Thesis Days. The exact structure of the seminar series and the focus of the seminars may vary somewhat between the groups.

After the final seminar, and possibly after a round of revisions, your report will be assessed and graded by your examiner in dialogue with your supervisor. Finaly, the grade will be reported in Ladok, and your thesis report will be uploaded to the publication data base DiVA .
