Muhammad Rezwan Shahid
Master's programme in Software Engineering of Distributed Systems

Hi Rezwan, what are you working on at the moment?

I'm currently working as a Software Engineer consultant at HiQ Stockholm AB. As a consultant I have project-based work at different companies. Projects can run from six months to several years. A few of the projects that I've worked on are Swish, Spotify, Circle K and, currently, Taxi Stockholm.

What is a regular day like at your job?

Most of the projects are very interesting and challenging. They all have different kinds of work strategy. There are many things involved in software development, such as requirements analysis, feasibility studies, time estimation, designing, as well as architecting and implementing the solution, testing, delivering, communicating with clients. These tasks take place on most days and I also attend meetings and discussions. We often have Swedish “Fika” as well. Thus, each day offers many challenges and a lot of excitement.

Have you worked on anything else since you graduated?

Yes, I've worked at another company called Seamless Payments AB on mobile payment solutions.

Why did you choose this programme at KTH?

After finishing my bachelor studies in Computer Science & Engineering in my home country of Bangladesh, I started looking for higher study options for Software Engineering. I had a very positive view about Sweden and therefore started looking at Swedish universities. I found that KTH was one of the best technology universities in Sweden and its world ranking is also quite impressive. I found the master’s programme in Software Engineering of Distributed Systems to be very much in line with my interests and KTH’s reputation was also quite high. So it was an easy choice.

Are there any insights or knowledge you acquired during your studies that have been particularly useful for you in your career?

The master’s degree project taught me a lot about how to analyse and research a particular topic and how to find information about a certain topic from different sources and combine them in order to reach a conclusion.

What were the best aspects of your studies at KTH?

I think the best aspect was the up-to-date curriculum. KTH helped me a lot with job interviews as I was very much in line with the latest technologies.

What is your best memory from your time at KTH?

I liked my classmates and also enjoyed the student corridor life a lot. We often had to do group assignments and it could take the whole night before handing in the assignment in the morning. Even though they were tough times, we still managed to enjoy ourselves. Now I look back at them with fondness.

What are your plans for the future?

I want to continue improving myself and become a successful software architect. I also plan to return to my country and start working with some development project that will help the country.

What would you want to say to a student who was thinking of applying for this programme?

I'd very much recommend this programme as it broadens the chance of future success.
