What I like about my programme is that you come in contact with so many different nationalities and learn how to collaborate with them
Naomi comes from the Netherlands. She did her bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering at the Hague University of Applied Sciences in Delft.
Why did you choose this master's programme at KTH?
During my bachelor's, I noticed that I did not really receive the real technical aspects of engineering. Therefore, I did my exchange courses about Entrepreneurship in Technology. I really enjoyed the courses I took and though it was very interesting. I also chose to do my master's abroad, because I believe you learn a lot when you are outside of your comfort zone. So, I started looking at good universities outside of the Netherlands and KTH is, of course, one of the best universities in Europe, so it's hard to miss it.
What are the best aspects of your programme?
What I like about my programme is that you come in contact with so many different nationalities and learn how to collaborate with them. Another thing I really enjoy is that you often have to think out of the box, there is not always a right answer.
Have you chosen a specialisation track within the programme? If Yes, which track and why?
There are no tracks in this programme.
What are some of your favourite courses so far?
Probably a lot of the others of my master's will disagree, because of the workload, but my favourite course is Project Management so far because it is more focused on learning by doing, thanks to the group projects.
How does studies at KTH differ from your previous studies?
I find my study at KTH more inspiring than my previous studies. During some seminars, we have to discuss with other students about our opinions on different topics and get an understanding of why others think that way. Also, I believe the workload is high, because with my previous studies I didn't need to read that much, so for me, it takes some extra time to get used to it.
How is student life in Stockholm?
The student life is really good. Even with the corona situation THS made sure there were many opportunities to meet other students. For the rest, Sweden has been a little more relaxed corona rules than other countries, so it very easy to meet other students and go to bars. Also, Stockholm has a lot of interesting places in and outside the city, like museums, islands and forests.
How would you describe your time at KTH so far?
I would mostly describe my time here as busy. When I don't have classes or had to study, I am always with friends. Besides that, it is also very inspiring, due to the discussion we have with the other students in our classes, and also because many others have interesting stories about their work experience within startups.
What do you want to do after graduating?
I'm not sure yet what I would like to do after graduating. I'll probably try to find a job in a big international company because I believe I can learn a lot from a large company. And hopefully, one day start my own startup or join one.
What would you like to say to students thinking of choosing KTH for master's studies?
First of all, good choice. And second, we all know how hard it is to find a master's that fits with you. What helped me is to talk to a student that studied my master's last year. So, if you have any questions, don't hesitate and send me a message!
