This page contains information about financing opportunities aimed at students who are going on exchange to universities outside Europe.
Travel grants, internationalisation grants and scholarships
Certain schools offer travel grants and internationalisation grants. There may also be scholarships to apply for.
Please note that it is Danske Bank that handles KTH's payments. To receive contributions paid to your bank account, you who do not have Danske Bank as a bank must register your account with Danske Bank. If you do not register for an account you will receive a debit card to redeem at a bank sent to your home address. You may need to specify KTH's customer number 79220.
You are entitled for the language scholarship, if:
The language course is given after you have been nominated for the exchange studies, at least for one semester or two.
You are going on exchange within the Erasmus programme or Bilateral exchange agreements.
Your exchange university does not offer a free language course.
You take a language course with a fee at a private language school in the exchange country or in Sweden.
You are not entitled for the language scholarship, if:
You are not nominated for the exchange studies by the ABE Education Office.
You will go on exchange as freemover.
You have already received the language scholarship before.
You take a language course in Swedish or English.
You apply for the language scholarship retroactively for exchange studies you have done in previous study years.
The scholarship amount is a maximum of 5 000 SEK.
Application
In order to apply for the travel grant you need to fill out the application form. Fill out the form Application & decision re Travel Scholarship/Travel grant and submit it to your International Coordinator.
If you are accepted to exchange studies or a degree project through the CBH School to a university outside of EU and Switzerland, you will receive a travel grant of 7 000 SEK.
The travel grant is awarded for participation in an exchange programme and the studies abroad must consist of at least 10 weeks.
You may only receive the grant once during your time at KTH
Students are not eligible for the CBH travel grant if they receive another financial support for their studies abroad, such as Erasmus+ scholarships, SEMP (Swiss Mobility Program), LinnaeusPalme or Minor Field Studies (MFS).
Reimbursement for Language Courses
We want to encourage everyone to learn the local language of the country where you are going. In addition to the travel grant, we can cover the fee for a language course (maximum up to 4 000 SEK) taken in the country where you do your exchange. The reembursment is done after the course fee has been payed by the student. Submit the form below and include your receipt.

CBH school offer to cover the fee for a language course (maximum up to 4 000 SEK) taken in the country where you do your exchange or degree project. The reimbursement is done after you have paid the course fee.
How to apply
Fill out, print, sign and submit the travel grant application to your international coordinator with your receipt from the language course.
KTH's HR department will administrate the application. Payments are usually done on the 25th, the month closest to your exchange start together with the other salary payments that month. The payment is usually only marked on the receiver's account as "lön" (salary in Swedish). This means it will not be directly evident that the payment is a grant from KTH.
Travel grant
Students nominated by the EECS school are eligible to apply for a travel grant through the EECS Education Office. Travel grants are provided provided if you do not receive any other scholarship (e.g Erasmus scholarship) related to your exchange studies, thus studies in european countries do not meet the criteria. The grant is given for exchange studies through KTH and for thesis work abroad. The exchange studies must include at least one semester's studies and for the degree project, the stay at the receiving organization abroad must be at least eight weeks.

• Countries within Europe that are not connected to e.g Erasmus+: 4000 kr

Language course grant
Students who have been nominated by the EECS School for exchange studies can apply for a grant to cover a language course. A criteria to be eligible for the language course grant is that the language is spoken in the country where the student has been nominated fort exchange studies. The language course grant cannot be given for a course in English. The application is made retroactive, with a receipt for the language course. The grant can only be applied for once per student.
If you are admitted to a study program given by the School of Industrial Engineering and Management (ITM) and you are nominated for exchange studies (one or two semesters) outside Europe you can apply for a travel grant from ITM.
Notice that if you receive other scholarships from KTH, such as MFS or Linnaeus Palme for the same period you are not entitled to the travel grant.
The amount available will depend on the geographic area as shown below.
North America: 6000 SEK
Rest of the world: 8000 SEK
If you are going to study in Europe, you should apply for Erasmus+ Scholarship, see information further down. Specific rules apply for Switzerland.
Travel grant for Degree project/ master's thesis
If you are admitted to a study programme given by the ITM school and do your degree project (master's thesis) abroad, you can also apply to the travel grant. In order to be entitled for travel grant you need to spend a minumum of 8 weeks of your your thesis abroad.
Notice that if you receive other scholarships from KTH, such as MFS or Linnaeus Palme for the same period you are not entitled to the travel grant.
The amount available will depend on the geographic area as shown below.
Europe: 3000 SEK
North America: 4000 SEK
Rest of the world: 6000 SEK
Important notice: Students can only receive travel grant on one occasion during their studies at ITM.

Compensation for preparatory language courses for exchange studies
If you need to take a language course in the country you are going to and the receiving university doesn´t organise courses that are free of charge, you can apply for a grant to be able to learn or improve the local language.
The maximum is 4000 sek. You can only receive the language grant on one occasion and not for courses in the English language.
The grant for a language course is applied for by filling in travel grant application form.
An original receipt stating the name of the school that gives the language course and the receipt of the paid fee must be attached to the application.
Students who are nominated for exchange studies within one of KTH's exchange agreements or will do their degree project abroad can apply for a travel grant from the SCI student office. In order for you to apply for a the travel grant, you may not receive any other grant for your exchange studies from KTH, for example the Erasmus scholarship, Erasmus internship scholarship or Swiss Mobility Scholarship. In order for you to receive the travel grant, you must submit a study plan and have it approved by the programme director. The stay must be at least 3 months. You can only receive the travel grant once. Expect that it takes 2-3 months from submitting the application until the money is paid out.
