Scholarship via Erasmus+
If you are awarded an exchange place within the EU, you can apply for an Erasmus scholarship, which is usually granted to all applicants. Only students allocated an exchange place through KTH's exchange agreement within Erasmus + can be given the Erasmus scholarship.We have summarized what applies to scholarships via Erasmus+ and how to apply.
All KTH students on exchange studies to Switzerland are entitled to a scholarship equivalent to CHF 1,900, approximately SEK 21,350. You receive a scholarship via Erasmus+ or the Swiss-European Mobility Programme, SEMP. Which scholarship you get depends on whether you are entitled to Swedish student finance from CSN.
If you are entitled to CSN, apply for an Erasmus scholarship (see more information below).
You who are not entitled to CSN apply for SEMP. You will receive information about the application from your host university in Switzerland.
Grants and scholarships from KTH
Please note that the bank Danske bank that handles KTH's payments. To receive contributions paid to your bank account, you must register your account with Danske bank. If you do not register for an account you will receive a debit card to redeem at a bank sent to your home address. KTH's employer number is 79220.
You are entitled for the language scholarship, if:
The language course is given after you have been nominated for the exchange studies, at least for one semester or two.
You are going on exchange within the Erasmus programme or Bilateral exchange agreements.
Your exchange university does not offer a free language course.
You take a language course with a fee at a private language school in the exchange country or in Sweden.
You are not entitled for the language scholarship, if:
You are not nominated for the exchange studies by the ABE Education Office.
You will go on exchange as freemover.
You have already received the language scholarship before.
You take a language course in Swedish or English.
You apply for the language scholarship retroactively for exchange studies you have done in previous study years.
The scholarship amount is a maximum of 5 000 SEK.
Application
In order to apply for the travel grant you need to fill out the application form. Fill out the form Application & decision re Travel Scholarship/Travel grant and submit it to your International Coordinator.
We want to encourage everyone to learn the local language of the country where you are going. CBH school offer to cover the fee for a language course (maximum up to 4 000 SEK) taken in the country where you do your exchange or degree project. The reimbursement is done after you have paid the course fee.
How to apply
In order to apply for the travel grant you need to fill out the application form. Fill out the form Application & decision re Travel Scholarship/Travel grant, with your receipt from the language course, and submit it to your International Coordinator.
KTH's HR department will administrate the application. Payments are usually done on the 25th, the month closest to your exchange start together with the other salary payments that month. The payment is usually only marked on the receiver's account as "lön" (salary in Swedish). This means it will not be directly evident that the payment is a grant from KTH.
Travel grant
Students nominated by the EECS school are eligible to apply for a travel grant through the EECS Education Office. Travel grants are provided provided if you do not receive any other scholarship (e.g Erasmus scholarship) related to your exchange studies, thus studies in european countries do not meet the criteria. The grant is given for exchange studies through KTH and for thesis work abroad. The exchange studies must include at least one semester's studies and for the degree project, the stay at the receiving organization abroad must be at least eight weeks.
Travel grants levels:
• Countries within Europe that are not connected to e.g Erasmus+: 4000 kr
• North America / Asia: 6000 kr
• Rest of the world: SEK 8000

Language course grant
Students who have been nominated by the EECS School for exchange studies can apply for a grant to cover a language course. A criteria to be eligible for the language course grant is that the language is spoken in the country where the student has been nominated fort exchange studies. Students taking degree project abroad can also take part of this offer.
The language course grant cannot be given for a course in English. The application is made retroactive, with a receipt for the language course. The grant can only be applied for once per student.
Compensation for preparatory language courses for exchange studies
If you need to take a language course in the country you are going to and the receiving university doesn't organise courses that are free of charge, you can apply for a grant to be able to learn or improve the local language.
The maximum is 4000 sek. You can only receive the language grant on one occasion and not for courses in the English language.
Application
The grant for a language course is applied for by filling in travel grant application form. An original receipt stating the name of the school that gives the language course and the receipt of the paid fee must be attached to the application.
Fill in the application form and hand it in to the ITM Educational Office, preferably to your International Coordinator.

Grants for language studies
If you are travelling as an exchange student and the host university does not organise a language course, or if you need to prepare during the summer, you can apply for a grant for the language course.
The reimbursement is done after you have paid the course fee. You have to present a receipt and bank statement (where the amount is stated in SEK) for the language course for a maximum of 4 000 SEK. Language grants are not given for studies in the English language.
Students with an Erasmus scholarship who, due to permanent disability or illness, need educational support or special adaptations during their time abroad can apply for grants to cover additional costs that arise. Grants can be applied for up to 100 percent coverage of the additional costs that arise in connection with the stay abroad. Additional costs mean the increased costs that the university or the individual student receives and which are not financed in any other way, such as transport, teaching materials, housing, assistant / companion, physiotherapy and medical examination in the host country.
