Funding for internship abroad within Europe
Here is a list of additional funding opportunities if you want to do an internship abroad in Europe.
If you carry out your internship in the EU, you can apply for an Erasmus scholarship. As a student, you may receive a scholarship for up to 12 months per level of study (Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral level). You can apply several times, staying at least two months for studies and two months for an internship. The scholarship is granted for the number of days you perform your internship. You must be enrolled at KTH to be awarded a scholarship. Before you start the application, you should look for an internship at a company/organisation/university and receive an invitation from them.
You should submit the application at least one month before the start date of the internship. This is in order for the scholarship to be paid in connection with the start of your internship. Applications made after the start date of the internship will not be approved. EIT students who is granted any EIT-scholarship is not eligable for Erasmus+ scholarship. More than one EU scholarship is not allowed.
Please send an email to erasmus-plus@kth.se to receice the link for the Erasmus application.
Students without EU citizenship may be required to apply for a visa. Read more about the rights and responsibilites connected to the scholarship in the Erasmus Student Charter (pdf 1.6 MB) .
Switzerland and the United Kingdom
As Switzerland and the United Kingdom are not part of Erasmus+, KTH cannot grant scholarships for internships or degree work outside of agreed exchange places in these countries. This situation is due to budget changes within the Erasmus programme.
If you want to apply for the Swiss scholarship (SEMP), you should apply for an exchange place for studies (e.g. project course). Contact your international coordinator for more information.
For double degree students
For double degree students, the following applies to degree work and internships abroad: To be eligible for the Erasmus scholarship, you must go to a company or university in a different country than the country you are going on an exchange from.
Example: If you have studied at a French university and come to KTH for double degree studies, you cannot go to France and receive the Erasmus scholarship for an internship or degree project.
Scholarship applications for Erasmus+
- Before you start the application, you must find a place where to undertake an internship.
- The application is made in two steps, so follow the instructions very carefully. The application must include:
- a Learning Agreement (pdf 277 kB) , signed by you, receiving organisation and someone at your academic school at KTH.
- an invitation letter from the organisation/company/university receiving you. Attach a description of the internship.
- a Grant Agreement, a complete and signed contract, to upload into the application system.
- A notification of an approved scholarship will be sent to the email address provided in the application.
- The scholarship is paid in two parts: an initial payment of 70% of the amount granted is made in connection with the date you specified as the start date. A second, final, payment is made when you have finished your internship. You need to upload a "Certificate of Attendence", or similar, into the application system, since the applied time period and the completed time may differ. This way we can adjust the amount to the correct number of days.
- You shoud make an evaluation of your internship which will be sent to you from the European Commission.
Language tests for Erasmus+ scholarship receivers
Before your internship, KTH recommends you to take a language test via Erasmus+ Online Language Support, OLS. The test is aimed at you who will participate in an internship that lasts for at least 14 days on-site. Through the test, you test your language level and can then choose to take one or more online courses in any language. You can also do a voluntary test at the end of your internship period.
You will receive a link from KTH to access the language test. You must create an account using the link to proceed to the language test. If you need help with the platform, please email erasmus-plus@kth.se .
Extra support for students with disabilities
Students with an Erasmus scholarship who, due to permanent disability or illness, need educational support or particular adaptations during their time abroad can apply for grants to cover additional costs that arise. Grants can be used for up to 100 per cent coverage of the additional costs that occur in connection with the stay abroad.
Additional costs mean the increased costs that the university or the individual student receives and which are not financed in any other way, such as transport, teaching materials, housing, assistant/companion, physiotherapy and medical examination in the host country. Contact erasmus-plus@kth.se for information.
