I want to use my credit card to pay my tuition fee. Is that possible?
Yes, you can use your credit card if it’s a Visa or Mastercard. Note that some banks may set limitations on credit card payments, for example due to currency exchange restrictions or fraud checks. Please contact your bank or card issuer to find out about any limitations on your card.
Is it better to pay by card or bank transfer?
We recommend that you pay your tuition fee by card. Card payments are confirmed immediately, and your receipt will be available in Ladok right away. Bank transfers are equally safe but can take up to 7 working days to reach KTH and appear in Ladok.
Are there any extra fees when paying with card or bank transfer?
For questions about fees charged by your bank or card issuer, please contact them directly. KTH does not charge any additional fees for payments.
I can’t log in with my reference number and email via the card payment link. What should I do?
Make sure you are using the same email address registered in Ladok. If it still doesn't work, you can pay via bank transfer instead.
My credit card doesn’t allow large payments. How can I pay the whole amount at once?
We suggest that you contact your bank and ask about:
- A temporary card-limit increase
- Pre-approving large international transactions in advance
- Using a card issued for international use
If these options do not work, you can split the tuition fee into smaller payments or pay via bank transfer. It is also possible to combine both methods- paying part by card and part by bank transfer. Please note that KTH cannot assist with technical issues related to your card.
When making a bank transfer, where do I enter my reference number?
It is important your payment reaches us correctly. Your KTH invoice includes a reference number (KTHXXXXX) labeled as "Message to receiver" and “reference number”. Enter it in the corresponding field on your bank's form when making your transfer. If no such field exists, enter it wherever appropriate and include the student´s name, even if someone else is making the payment. If you are unsure, contact your bank for assistance.
When will I receive my receipt? Do I need it to apply to The Swedish Migration Agency:
If you are paying by credit card, you should receive an on-screen transaction notification and a confirmation e-mail. Your payment confirmation will be visible and downloadable in Ladok shortly after.
If you are paying by bank transfer, you will receive your downloadable receipt/payment confirmation in Ladok after your payment has reached us. This could take up to 7 working days.
Please note that you do not need to wait for your payment confirmation to apply for a residence permit. Apply as soon as you can, the Swedish Migration Agency will be notified when the payment is made and the migration process starts immediately.

What happens if I do not pay the tuition fee for the upcoming semester?
If a student does not comply with the payment regulations, a decision to suspend the student from further studies at KTH will be made and enter into force immediately until full payment is made.
Students with accommodation through KTH will lose their tenancy contract along with other benefits and additional services for tuition paying students (for example, insurance, primary health care, accounts etc.) until full payment is made and the suspension is reversed.
