Application for exchange studies

When you apply for exchange studies depends on whether you study your entire education at KTH or whether you only study a master's programme at KTH. This page contains all the information you need about the application process.

The application is open

The application for exchange studies in the academic year 2026/2027 is open until 19 February at 12.00 noon. Please note:

  • Anyone studying a programme with exchange opportunities at KTH can apply for exchange studies for the coming academic year in this application round. Those who have completed their bachelor's degree at a university other than KTH have priority for exchange places.
  • All your courses must be reported in Ladok by the time the application closes. As a student, it is your responsibility to ensure that all your course components are reported by the end of the application period. Read more about the requirement and what to do if your results are not reported on time: Reported courses in Ladok

You who have studied for your bachelor's degree at another university have reserved exchange places.

For those of you who have studied or are studying for your bachelor's degree at KTH, this application round works as a late application, where you can be allocated one of the places left after the application round in November.

Even you who study your entire education at KTH can apply in February, if you missed the application in November. For full requirements and selection rules, go to Requirements and selection for exchange studies . If you are unsure when to apply, or have questions, contact your international coordinator .

This applies to the application

  • You can apply for exchange studies from the second year of your studies at bachelor’s level, but not perform exchange studies before the third year of studies on bachelor’s level, at the earliest.
  • If you already have been nominated and carried out exchange studies, or been nominated and declined your exchange allocation, you can apply again. However, students who have not previously applied for and been allocated a place have priority when places are allocated.
  • You can apply to a maximum of five universities and put them in order of priority.
  • You can not go on exchange studies to places for which the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs has stated an advice against travel. Please carefully check entry requirements and restrictions in the country/region where you intend to perform exchange studies. Learn more on UD avråder (regeringen.se) .

If you have already been allocated an exchange place for the coming study year, you may only apply for another exchange place, if:

  • it turns out that the allocated place will not fit academically, or
  • if you would like to apply for a prolonged stay at the allocated university.

Before applying, it is important to check that you are eligible for exchange studies.
