Frequently asked questions
What provisions apply concerning financial compensation and intellectual property rights?
If you as a student agree with the contact person on a payment/financial compensation, it is an agreement between you and the participating company/organisation. The form and amount of any financial compensation paid may affect your insurance coverage, student financial aid, and rights to any copyright or other intellectual property rights. It is customary for the company/organisation to bear the costs related to travel, materials and the like, and to provide a workspace.
If you enter into an employment contract with the company/organisation, very likely the organisation will own the rights to any intellectual property rights generated within the framework of the placement. As a student, you are then entitled to fair financial compensation, which should be governed already in the agreement. In the event you yourself have proposed the project or own the data for the practical degree project and nothing else is agreed in the contract, you will own the intellectual property rights that you develop/produce within the framework of the placement and the related project.
If you have questions about intellectual property rights, you can contact the KTH Innovation Department, either by writing your question here or sending an e-mail to innovation@kth.se.
Concerning the principle of transparency and public access to documentation, what special provisions apply?
The practical degree project is to be presented in the form of a written report and presented at a seminar that is open to anyone who desires to participate. The report becomes a public document. Often a special presentation will be made for the company.
I want to do my practical degree project placement abroad – what do I need to keep in mind?
Do you want to do your practical degree project placement in a developing country? The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency has funding available for a travel grant for Minor Field Studies (MFS) in developing countries where you can collect material for your degree project for a bachelor’s, magister’s or master’s degree.
More information on the possibilities for study and practical training abroad
Student insurance covers all those admitted to and pursuing academic studies at an institution of higher education. Kammarkollegiet, the Swedish Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency can offer you insurance during your stay abroad.
Who is responsible the for costs?
KTH is not responsible for the costs outside KTH in connection with the degree project nor for any personal injury that may occur or any property damage, financial or other damages, that the student may either directly or indirectly cause the company/organisation or that may arise as a result of the degree project.
