Panel discussion: The role of universities in addressing today's and future's sustainability challenges and solutions
To reach national and international commitments, rapid and comprehensive action is needed. Universities have a responsibility and a unique position to enable the just and sustainable transition of society through our teaching and research and collaboration.
As an arena for knowledge development and exchange universities facilitate networks and collaboration that bring together thousands of students, researchers, employees and stakeholders as well as community members to develop and implement sustainability. Researchers, teachers and administrators work closely with governments, companies and civil society in pursuit of solutions to global challenges.
- How can we ensure that our students are taught to and prepared to work with sustainability challenges either when they enter working life or if they choose a research career?
- How can universities strengthen researcher infrastructure and promote environments for the development of innovation and versatile solutions?
- How can universities work together with governments and industry to ensure that cutting edge research rapidly comes to the benefit of society?
