Maybe it’s worth asking AI what your next job application should look like. More and more companies are starting to use AI to handle the initial stages of recruitment.

As AI becomes a bigger part of everyday tasks, it’s also starting to change how companies hire. Cali Nuur , professor at INDEK, has participated in a study that explores what happens when organizations use AI in their recruitment processes.

How does AI change the way companies recruit talent?

“This research focuses on a type of AI called chatbots, which mimic human conversation. Traditionally, recruiting talent was a lengthy process involving screening applications, resumes, and conducting various assessments. Chatbots help automate this process by scanning resumes and identifying qualified candidates.

What happens with the human aspect of finding talents?

“While AI boosts efficiency, especially operational efficiency, there’s still a need for human interaction to build what we call 'relational efficiency.' AI can support the talent acquisition process, but it can’t fully replace the human element in selecting the best candidates.”

The study highlights both positive and negative social impacts of AI in recruitment. Can you explain?

“On the positive side, AI brings significant societal benefits by improving efficiency and accessibility. Chatbots can automate tasks like resume screening, interview scheduling, and initial assessments, allowing employers to focus on more strategic decisions. This shortens the time it takes to hire and lowers costs, benefiting both companies and job seekers. However, ensuring ethical use—particularly regarding transparency and fairness—is essential to fully realize these benefits.”

Should job seekers be aware of or adapt to these new technologies when applying for jobs?

”Yes, definitely.”
