Building Innovation Capabilities in East Africa's Public Sector
The Building Innovation Capabilities programme is a training programme designed to enhance innovation capabilities within public sector organisations in Tanzania and Kenya. The programme aims to foster the role for the public sector organisations in Tanzania and Kenya as contributors to innovation ecosystems influencing a fair and green transition. The programme builds on the crucial role that the public sector has for addressing complex societal issues, utilising Challenge-Driven Education and Innovation (CDE&I) to foster shared learning and problem solving.
The programme curriculum focuses on managing and organising for innovation and collaboration. By linking public organizations with regional academic institutions, it fosters networking, learning, and the exchange of ideas to build a responsive, self-sustaining innovation ecosystem. The ultimate aim is to drive economic and social progress while supporting the attainment of the sustainable development goals.
Through tailored workshops, training sessions, and collaborative projects, the programme equips public servants from various sectors with the skills to drive and create conditions for innovation within their respective organisations. Participants engage in hands-on activities that emphasise the application of innovative thinking to real-world challenges.
The programme has been developed through close collaboration between Strathmore University (Kenya), University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), and combines online training with physical training and meetings in Tanzania and Kenya.
