Organisation
The IRIS project followed a certain organisational structure consisting of several roles, responsibilities, and decision-making processes.
IRIS was organised using a traditional project structure. The IRIS project was organised based on the ITM School matrix and a governance model where roles, responsibilities, and decision-making processes were defined and clarified.

Organisational structure
The organisational structure of IRIS was:
- The ITM School's Departments allocate funding to people who work in projects.
- Projects, which must involve people from different departments, are grouped into one of IRIS’s four research areas. The four research areas of IRIS were created before IRIS started as a result of a series of meetings and brainstorming sessions.
- Each research area has an overall theme and the projects within each area are coordinated by two people from different departments. Learn more about the four research areas: IRIS Research
- Reference groups act as a bridge between the interdisciplinary research of individual projects and the involved departments. They provide research support and advertise the projects.
- The area Coordinators are supported and guided by a Project Manager on good project management practices.
- The Project Manager reports to a Steering Committee.
- The Steering Committee supports the project and steers its direction as the project develops.
- The vice-Dean of the ITM School chairs the Steering Committee, which also comprises representatives from the School's Prefects as well as Area Coordinators.
- The vice-Dean informs various networks within KTH about the ongoing developments in the IRIS Project.
Roles and responsibilities
The organisational structure of IRIS included a number of roles, all with their own responsibilities. These include:
- The management group of the ITM school has an overall responsibility for IRIS.
- The four research areas have their own coordinator, co-coordinator, and reference group.
- ITM:s deputy head is responsible for overall coordination of IRIS and reports to the school’s management group Together with the area coordinators, the deputy head develops and maintains an overall strategy to facilitate and structure the work.
- The area coordinators and the reference groups manage their respective areas and provide concrete plans and proposals for activities, as well as follow up the work within their areas.
- The continuous work of spreading information about IRIS and research within IRIS is supported by ITM’s communication team.
