Material challenges for a sustainable energy transition

The energy sector relies heavily on materials for a diverse range of applications, including power generation, energy storage, conversion, and transportation. The careful selection of materials in these applications is paramount, as it can have a profound effect on the overall efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of energy systems. In essence, the importance of materials in the energy sector cannot be overstated.

The mitigation of climate change necessitates a shift from fossil fuels to a sustainable energy system. The focus of this workshop is to address the critical challenges related to materials science involved in achieving sustainable energy conversion, storage, and transmission. Specifically, the workshop aims to explore promising opportunities within the fields of heterogeneous catalysis, photovoltaics, and high voltage transmission. 

The organisers of this event are the KTH research platforms for Material  and Energy , which are dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and creating an environment conducive to developing innovative solutions to future challenges. The event is co-organised by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences  (IVA) chapters II and IV. By bringing together experts in these fields, the workshop seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas and encourage the development of pioneering knowledge that can contribute to a sustainable future.
